Here is a great Nike spot with Michael Jordan talking about how failure has helped him to succeed. Thanks for reminding me of this one, Mr. Niebuhr.

If the video won't play, here is the quote that Michael Jordan states during the commercial. Base your answer on this quote.

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
-- Michael Jordan

In Michael Jordan's quote about his failure being his success it could be targeting the fact that you must fail in order to be better. He had perceive his lost as wanting to get better rather than give up like most people would have done. Many reason could have been in Michael's Jordan life that made him motivated. His Motivations could of range from making his family proud, proving people wrong or just because of the fact that he wanted to improve and show his passion for his basketball. I would say that in order for Michael Jordan to achieve he had to go through two goals. First he needed to learn the skill and exceed by doing this he never gave up his emotions to improve didn't stop him from shooting over and over he might have tried different techniques until his shooting got better. His performance goal show that all his hard work and failing made him more successful than the other times were he had fail.

What i think made Micheal Jordan the best basketball player is his motivation. His motive was to become the greatest, and not to be such a failure. He didnt want to seem to like he failed more than he succeeded. Also his motivation could have been to make his family and himself proud, and to feel acomplished, by accomplishing his goals in his basketball career.

I believe Jordan was after an intrinsic reward. He trained harder than anyone else because he wanted to be the best at everything he did, not because the "best" gets paid the most or anything like that. He knew there was no point to playing the game if he wasn't the best.
